Smallholder farmers after $1 billion fund

Bisnis Indonesia, 13 July 2018

Smallholder farmers eyes the $1 billion fund from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to build palm oil mills in an effort to anticipate low fresh fruit bunch (FFB) price. The Indonesian Oil Palm Farmers Association (Apkasindo) Chairman Anizar Simanjuntak said that the fund will be used for mill construction, palm oil management, replanting programme, and infrastructure development. Apkasindo discussed with Maritime Affairs Coordinating Minister Luhut Binsar Panjaitan about the plan. Luhut suggested to go after the fund from UNDP. This is the second offer received by Apkasindo from Maritime Affairs Coordinating Ministry after the $15 billion micro loan previously offered by China.
