The Indonesian government is determined to implement necessary measures to prevent forest and land fires from spreading in Sumatra, as the Asian Games will kick off in Jakarta and Palembang on 18 August, at the peak of the dry season. Environment and Forestry Ministry Climate Change Director General Ruandha Agung Sugadirman said a coordinated team comprising relevant officials are routinely carrying out patrols in areas prone to forest fires. In addition, the government has also prepared other measures, such as stationing dozens of helicopters in South Sumatra and Riau, as well as creating artificial rain.
