Palm oil demand from India and China rises

Kompas, 4 October 2018

Indonesia’s palm oil exports to India in August 2018 reached 3.3 million metric tons, increasing slightly from 3.22 million metric tons in the previous month.
Indonesian Palm Oil Association (GAPKI) Executive Director Mukti Sardjono said in Jakarta on Wednesday (October 3) that the increased demand was caused by higher import tariffs imposed on other vegetable oil in India.
Meanwhile, Indonesia’s palm oil exports to China rose 26%, while exports to the US and Africa also increased by 64% and 19%, respectively.
However, the overall palm oil exports from January-August 2018 only reached 19.96 million metric tons or lower than 20.43 million metric tons in the same period last year.
