One-map policy puts spotlight on land issues

The Jakarta Post, 8 March 2018
As the government plans to speed up the completion of a onemap policy that will provide integrated information on the country’s spatial conditions, many are hoping that it will also help to settle land conflicts and bolster support for environmental protection. The Geospatial Information Agency (BIG), which is tasked with overseeing the project, said Ina-Geoportal, the anchor site for One Map, would be launched in August at 1:50,000 in scale. The government initially planned to launch it next year. Environmentalists have welcomed the plan, saying the map would be crucial to address the country’s land problems and the planned moratorium on permits for new oil palm plantations this year.
