Oil palm replanting fails to reach target

Kontan Harian, 23 November 2018

The Agriculture Ministry has issued technical recommendation for 15,000 hectares of oil palm plantations owned by smallholders. In addition, only 1,000 hectares of them have been approved to receive disbursement from the Indonesian Oil Palm Estate Fund (BPDPKS).

Agriculture Ministry Plantation Director General Bambang on Wednesday (November 21) said the government initially expected to see 185,000 hectares of plantations replanted. However, many farmers withdrew from the program. Farmers have begun to request replanting fund only after the BPDPKS disbursed replanting fund in September 2018. On the other hand, the program is also hampered due to the lack of certified smallholder plantations.
