Deforestation in Indonesia for the 2016 to 2017 period declined to 479,000 ha from 630,000 ha in the previous period. The Environment and Forestry Ministry (KLHK) claimed that a strict moratorium policy and forest and land fire prevention activities contributed greatly to this achievement.
