Low price of fresh fruit bunches puts oil palm farmers at disadvantage

Indonesian Oil Palm Farmers Indonesia (Apkasindo) Deputy Secretary General Rino Afrindo in Jakarta on Friday (November 16) revealed that palm oil mills were purchasing fresh fruit bunches from smallholders for Rp500 per kilogram in several provinces. Meanwhile, the production cost is around Rp800 per kilogram. He argued that according to international price, fresh fruit bunches are supposed to be priced at Rp1,200-Rp1,300 per kilogram.
