Land fires in South Sumatra are highly suspected to have been intentionally started by people. The air patrol team found a group of people standing near burned lands while conducting a water bombing operation, South Sumatra Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) Emergency Response Acting Deputy Yolak Dalimunthe said on Saturday (July 21) in Palembang. Local people usually burn abandoned lands for farming. Partnerships between all stakeholders, including village officials, is needed to raise people awareness on the prohibition to burn land, especially ahead of the Asian Games.
