The Agriculture Ministry is optimistic that 14 million hectare of oil palm plantations will be certified by the Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) by 2020. The ISPO certification covered only 25% of the plantations so far. Agriculture Ministry Plantation Director General Bambang said that ISPO certification ensures no company operates in protected forest areas. ISPO could also prove that the Europe’s black campaign on palm oil is wrong. He said that one of the obstructions in ISPO certification process is the poor synergy between institutions, which often caused overlapping permits for oil palm plantations.
