Indian business players help RI negotiate CPO import duty

Bisnis Indonesia, 17 July 2018

Palm oil business players in India promised to help lobby the Indian government to lower import duty on Indonesia’s palm oil products. Solidaridad Network Asia Limited (SNAL) Managing Director Shatadru Chattopadhayay said that Indian business players are communicating with their government regarding the import duty. Negotiation is ongoing, but it should be underlined that this issue is not easy to solve, he said during a meeting with the Indonesian Palm Oil Board (DMSI) on Monday (July 16). He said that the Indian government decided to increase the import duty to protect domestic vegetable oil producers. However, he admitted that the domestic vegetable oil production is insufficient to fulfill the demand.
