Price of fresh fruit bunches in Langkat regency, North Sumatra, rose to Rp1,050/kg when its production rate fell 50% in an early dry season, and thus, farmers are unable to record an increase in income. Indonesian Palm Oil Association (Gapki) North Sumatra Chapter Secretary Timbas Prasad Ginting said the industry always sees a similar problem every year. He suggested oil palm farmers form groups to cut the distribution chain of fresh fruit bunches from farmers to mills.
