French farmers protest against CPO imports

Kompas, 12 June 2018

Tens of French farmers blocked access to oil depots and refineries on Sunday (June 10) evening as a protest against Total’s plan to import CPO to make biodiesel. National Federation of Agricultural Holders’ Unions (FRSEA) Chairman Damien Greffon said that France imports several products that do not respect the rules applied to French farmers. It concerns South American meat and Spanish wine as well as palm oil. French Agriculture Minister Stephane Travert said on Monday (June 11) that he will immediately meet with the union and biodiesel company to talk about supply and price. However, Travert reminded that the farmers’ blockades were illegal and the government would not rescind the decision to allow Total to use imported palm oil.
