Jambi Acting Governor Fachrori Umar yesterday (31 July) called on the Forest Fire Mitigation Task Force to punish perpetrators of forest and land fires in the province. Jambi provincial administration is determined to eliminate forest and land fires after the 2015 haze disaster, he said. To that end, the administration has issued earlier in March 2017 the Gubernatorial Regulation No.31/2016 to provide technical guidelines for the implementation of Bylaw No.2/2016 on forest and land fires prevention and control. Meanwhile in South Sumatra, the Indonesian Military (TNI) has assigned 200 soldiers to prevent forest and land fires in several locations from spreading further.
