Fire patrols have been intensified in South Sumatra ahead of the Asian Games 2018 as land fires and hotspots started to emerge in several parts of the province. The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicted that dry season will last from August to September in South Sumatra. Meanwhile, the number of fires continues to rise, South Sumatra Disaster Mitigation Agency Emergency Response Acting Head Anshori said on Monday (July 16). The number of hotspots has increased to 57 by mid-July from 52 in June. On Monday (July 16), fires occurred in three areas: Pemulutan district in Ogan Ilir, Pedamaran district in Ogan Komering Ilir, and Rantau Bayung district in Banyuasin.
