The European Union (EU) Ambassador for Indonesia Vincent Guerend said that the window of opportunity is still open for Indonesia to export palm oil to Europe. Europe has never obstructed or discriminated against Indonesia’s palm oil. Indonesia should just continue with its sustainable palm oil development, he said during a visit to “Kompas” in Jakarta on Friday (April 20). He also explained about the EU’s Renewable Energy Directive, which aimed at shifting to 100% renewable energy by 2050. The latest European Parliament’s palm oil resolution stated that palm oil causes high carbon emission. However, this matter will be further discussed and the EU will strive for a non-discriminatory agreement.
