CPO negotiation remains tough

Bisnis Indonesia, 19 February 2019

Trade Minister Enggartiasto Lukita said that Indonesia will declare its readiness to import some of India’s commodities at ASEAN-India Free Trade Agreement Trade Ministerial Meeting in India on February 21. Indonesia will make the offer so that India agree to lower its import duty on Indonesia’s crude palm oil. He said on Monday (February 18) that he will make sure that Indonesia get the same treatment from India as Malaysia in CPO import duty.

Industry Minister Airlangga Hartanto recommends that the government trade Indonesia’s CPO with India’s automotive products and pharmaceutical raw materials. Meanwhile, Indonesian Palm Oil Association (Gapki) Secretary General Kanya Laksmi praised the government’s effort, saying India is an important CPO market for Indonesia.
