Business players encouraged to sue Iceland

Bisnis Indonesia, 17 April 2018
Council of Palm Oil Producer Countries (CPOPC) urged business players to sue British modern retailer Iceland Foods following the retailer’s plan to stop selling palm oil-based products. CPOPC Executive Director Mahendra Siregar said that one of the ways to stop the plan is by filing a lawsuit against the retailer to the local court. This should be filed by companies because the government is unrelated to the business between producers and retailers. Indonesian Palm Oil Association (GAPKI) Chairman Joko Supriyono said that the negative sentiment on palm oil has emerged since a long time ago. According to him, supermarkets in Europe admitted that they were pushed by NGOs to put labels that inform any palm oil ingredients contained in their products. This led supermarkets to boycott palm oil-based products.
