Palm shell business players in Riau are feeling burdened by the high export tax on palm shells. The Indonesian Palm Kernel Shell Business Association (Apcasi) Chairman Dikki Akhmar said that business players were asking the government to evaluate the export tax policy. The government imposes $17 tax per one tonne of palm shells, which is deemed too high and reduces sales. As a matter of fact, palm shells are unused waste that are not optimally absorbed by domestic market.
