Between oil palms and deforestation

Bisnis Indonesia, 25 March 2019

The Environment and Forestry Ministry (KLHK) has claimed that Indonesia had been improving its regulation to curb deforestation. KLHK International Industry and Trade staff Laksmi Dhewanti told “Bisnis” on Thursday (March 21) that the government had been improving its regulation to curb deforestation and improve the governance of oil palm plantations.

However, Oil Palm Farmers Union (SPKS) Chair Mansuetus Darto said the government still had much to do to improve sustainable palm oil governance. He hoped the government could improve governance at the farmers’ level, regardless of the European trade barrier on crude palm oil (CPO).
