Sinar Mas grants operational vehicles for Gadjah Mada University student regiment 

YOGYAKARTA – Sinar Mas and the Gadjah Mada Univertsity have officialized their latest partnership by signing a hand over document regarding the granting of an operational vehicle for the command of the Mahakarta Student Regiment of Gadjah Mada University.

“The activity today is an implementation of our support to institutions of higher learning that are continuously consistent, not only in giving priority to strong scientific traditions and researches but also a long tradition of pride and activism,” Sinar Mas Managing Drector G. Sulistiyanto said regarding the background for the support provided by Sinar Mas so far to the Gadjah Mada University.

The statement was made after signing the document, along with deputy rector for human resources and assets of Gadjah Mada University, Bambang Agus Kironoto, with Gadjah Mada rector Panut Mulyono present.

“The student regiment is a recipient for building character, nationalism, leadership and also the capacity to defend the homecountry. The aims that wants to be reached is that this activity unit remains relevant and of value. However, the ways to attain these aims appear to constantly develop as time goes by,” Sulistiyanto said.

According to him, the potential for armed conflict may possibly be decreasing but the conflict related to the domination of natural resources, trade war and also the asymmetrical war conducted through the social media are becoming increasingly more open. Also of importance is the capacity for serving the public and the mitigation of disasters. “Matters like this have certainly already been anticipated by the members of the student regiment of the Gadjah Mada University.

“Hopefully these vehicle can help all those activities,” he said, speaking as a representative of the board of directors of PT Indah Kiat Pulp & Paper Tbk, the company that comes under Asia Pulp & Paper Sinar Mas which has been facilitating the provision of the grant.

The vehicle was symbolically handed over between G. Sulistiyanto and Gadjah Mada rector,Panut Mulyono and the chairman of the Alumni of the Gadjah Mada University Student Regiment, Budi Setiono. The hand over also coincided with the opening of a training for successful study for new student recruits of the 2017/2018 academic year on Monday (7/8/2017) at the Gadjah Mada campus in Bulaksumur, Yogyakarta. Also present witnessing the event was State Secretary minister Pratikno, the Airforce Chief Marshall Hadi Tjahjanto, Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo and special presidential staff AA GN Ari Dwipayana.

The support is a follow up of the long term partnership between Sinar Mas and Gadjah Mada University. Prior to this, on Saturday, October 8 last year, Sinar Mas along with a number of participating companies, handed over the Sinar Mas Building to the Gadjah Mada faculty of biology. The 5,800 square meter Sinar Mas building which has an environmentally friendly design is located in Padukuhan Sendewok, Sleman district.

Meanwhile, the  Eka Tjipta Foundation with the support of APP Sinar Mas, on March 7, 2017 inaugurated a cooperation in education with the forestry faculty of Gadjah Mada University, through the development of a forestry education program and the inauguration of the university’s post graduate building. Through the Eka Tjipta Foundation, more than 100 scholarship have been channeled to students of the Gajah Mada University.
